The first year of your baby’s life is filled with really good and beautiful momentsThe first year of your baby’s life is filled with really good and beautiful moments to take pictures of. From milestones, like when they start to smile, or age markers, like six months, there are times that are ideal for a baby portrait session.  Sometimes those dear moments happen during our rainy season. But don’t let the gloomy winter weather dictate when you have your baby’s portraits made. Overcast mornings and unpredictable sunshine may make outdoor portraits not so much fun but I’m here to tell you that having them made in the studio is the perfect solution.

Here are 5 reasons why the studio

is the best place to have your

baby’s portraits made in the winter.

  1. They are professional looking.

Portraits that we make of your baby in the studio are going to look the same whether we make them at 9am or 6pm. This means we can schedule them around your baby’s nap and other family obligations.  Regardless of the time of day that we make them, they will look lovely.

2. It’s a stress-free experience. It’s easier to come to the studio than to be outside.

When I worked exclusively outdoors one of the things parents worried the most about was safety - was their child safe outside (if we were near roads, could they fall if they toddled, and what wildlife was around).  Parents spent energy trying to keep their children mess-free for their pictures.

When we are in the warm and comfy studio most of those don’t exist. It’s my job to try and get those smiles and make sure you come across looking your best.

3. It’s a custom experience.

Just because you’re in the studio, doesn’t mean you can’t still make the session your own. Personalizing your baby’s session can be as simple as bringing their favorite toy or comfort item.  Also, It’s been my experience that families are more comfortable dressing their little ones in family heirloom clothing when they know we’re going to be indoors.

4. Way fewer distractions.

I love a baby’s direct gaze. Such sweet moments can be harder to come by when little ones are soaking up the great big world outside. My simple studio setup also allows the focus to be solely on your baby's expressions and personality so that the focus is right where it should be - on your baby.

5. Family is welcome.

Having a comfortable sitting area makes including grandparents or other significant family members feel welcome.  Grandparents are often invited to come along to be an extra set of hands or just to see your child have their portrait made. There’s space in the studio where family can sit and watch your baby get all the attention, and just have fun.

Deciding to make your baby's portraits in the winter months in the studio during their first year is something you’ll be glad you did. The controlled environment of a studio allows for professional-quality images and creating images of your baby's earliest moments with consistency and beauty and artistry.  Ultimately, these portraits become heirlooms, telling a little piece of your baby’s first year story that can be loved for a  lifetime.
